ANCASH
Navel of the ancient Ancash Peruvian culture, it is a region with a rich historical past. According to Julio C. Tello´s hypothesis, the Peruvian culture is autoctonous and is expressed in Chavín de Huantar (About 1,200 b.C).
It was the first culture that managed to incorporate a large part of the Peruvian territory. The people of Chavín’s culture were great temple builders and agricultors; they built great irrigation canals and produced corn on a large scale, along with other types of agricultural products. This is why Chavín de Huantar has been declared by the UNESCO as “Cultural Patrimony of Humanity”. The reason for the disappearance of this influent culture, remains a mystery up to our days.
